Echinocardium cordatum

Egg-shaped and covered in short, fine, backward-pointing spines like fur, living buried 10-20cm down in clean sand. Almost never seen alive and in the open; what washes up on beaches is the pale, heart-marked test with its five petal-shaped pore patterns.
