Purple sea urchin

Paracentrotus lividus

A dark purple to blackish urchin of rock pools and shallow reefs in the south and west, often sitting in a shallow pit it has worn into the rock. Longer spines than the green urchin; found on south-western and Irish coasts, absent from the North Sea.
